Mailing a letter? Use American Garden Stamps

Steve Gunn ‘19 • May 01, 2020

Norfolk Botanical Garden is one of ten American gardens honored in a new series of stamps from the US Postal Service.

The stamps, which will be available on May 13, can be ordered online or should be available at local post offices. (Pro tip: Online ordering is easier.) The stamps are forever stamps, which cost 55 cents each and a sheet costs $11.00. That includes two of each garden.

Norfolk is in good company, since many famous public gardens are included on the stamps; Biltmore, Winterthur, Brooklyn and Chicago botanic gardens are among those featured. “It’s pretty exciting for Norfolk,” said Michael P. Desplaines, president and CEO of the garden told the Pilot last year. “It’s pretty rare and hard to get on a stamp.”

The Norfolk stamp is based on a photo of the bicentennial rose garden.
It will be hard to buy them individually, except online through commercial services that mark up the price. Some 50 million stamps will be printed, according to the USPS.

See the stamps and order online at the link below. You will need to create an account to order them, but that same account can be used to hold your mail when you are on vacation or get the daily preview of your mail.
